Everyday, everyone is surrounded by technology. I wake up to my phone’s alarm going off. I go to school with a highly advanced car, that doesn’t need a key to start it. I have dull and boring reading to do, i have to try to listen to lame lectures, and thus complete homework assignments before i have to go to work. But the bathroom is not how technology affects me most, I would have to say its my online gaming console. Shooting people is fun and can relieve stress, mainly because its a game and not reality. Also you meet plenty of people around the world. When you play you try to get better, you aim to get better and you acquire faster reflexs and better hand and eye coordination. Amazingly, video games does not rot your brain, in a strange way, it stimulates it.
What is technology today? Well its practically everything, meaning you cannot narrow technology down to anything specific. Today this world has become so advanced, we probably can’t even go to the bathroom without technology. So when I am home and have free time, I dont watch tv, or go swimming, I turn on my Playstation 3 and start playing online. I play a fast action shooting game named Call of Duty 4, and it is fun. Who doesn’t like shooting people in the face and watching them die. I mean, for a guy, that is almost a dream come true. Also blowing cars up and tossing grenades, its beautiful. That is something i will most likely never get to do in my life, let alone shoot someone, and this game enables me to have that kind of fun without really hurting myself or someone else for that matter. But there are games like “Search and Destroy” which require stealth and tactics to be good at. Really all the games played in Call of Duty 4 require skill, so it just takes practice. When you get good, you start understanding how people play and what they do in different situations, but you have to let yourself have fun and not take the game serious or else it will give you stress and make you curse like a sailor. Honestly, i am a good player. I know that when you are stressed out and mad, playing a game like that can just piss you off some more and you get nothing out of it. The key is staying calm and just do your thing. When i play, normally i play with a group of friends, we all chat and fun while playing. We make jokes and funny insults, but also push eachother to play better and smarter. But when im by myself, normally its too relieve stress, because i dont want to risk snapping on one of my friends. The best way to relieve stress is shooting people in the back. First because they cant see you, and second, it makes them mad in which you feel more accomplished because you have not only ruined someones day, but made yourself look good. So in general, playing this game lets me have fun and relieve stress. But there is more to it than just shooting people, even though thats the fun part.
An interesting part of online gaming is meeting new people. It is like making new friends but easier. You can be at home in California talking to someone in Europe. Considering there is a time difference you can be eating breakfast and the person in Europe can be eating dinner. The people you befriend with online gaming are the people you are honest too. How are they gonna hurt you? You can pretty much talk to anyone and befriend whoever you want. Now of course the other person has to accept your offer, but they have to be willing to meet and get to know new people too. Online gaming is just about risk free, with the exception of hackers and stuff like that. When you are playing online games, you get to know how other people react. Say someone brags alot, that person is probably gonna be a jerk in real life. When you watch someone play the game rather than listen to them, you find out more about them. If they hide and wait for people to come to them they are probably a very cautious person and let things develop rather than jump to conclusions. Where on the other hand someone rushes into combat and leaves his teammates behind could possibily mean he is a lone wolf, who doesn’t care about others and automatically assumes when he should evaluate the situation. This is not all about the game, the way people play the game reflect on how the act and work with others in real life. When you meet a group of gamers who play well together, that is a bunch of individuals who spent time and got to know one another. They became a team and built a friendship or bond and they got eachothers back. Now they probably never met eachother in real life but it doesn’t matter because they all have one common interest, playing the game. They strive one another to get better and play smarter. This encouragement actually works, and it works better than most encouraging techniques because online games are highly competetive. Even though they all work together and play together, there is one person who has to be the best and one person who is the worst. Even the best player and the worst player skill level can be close, and they both have the same goal, to get better. But they always want to better.
I used to be horrible at online gaming, it was fun because i never played before, but i was horendous. But really, no matter what, everyones first time doing anything they will most likely not be successful. I didn’t really get good until two years of actually playing the game. I have met alot of different people and there is alot of different ways to play the game. But I guess from the start, my hand and eye coordination has increased dramastically. I can say that because the sensitivity on my controller rose from 3 to 7. That is not really hard to do, it took me a while to get it down, but sometimes it can get a little crazy. There are people who put it on the highest sensitivity, 10, and they play like all stars. Alot of people i play with are pretty good and they push me to the next level. I have great friends online and when you play with good people, you tend to get better. Something that i tought myself how to do is a “drop shot”. When someone running towards you trying to kill y0u, i drop to the ground as i’m shooting them. On screen it doesn’t look that hard, but its more complicated. To drop to the ground you have to hold the analog stick down and keep the aim on the person coming at you. This is hard because you cant move as fast when you are laying on the ground, its a very vulnerable position. But a successful drop shot will: one kill the enemy, and anger the person who died. There is more things i tought myself to do like “quick scope” and “the j-shot” but i believe i have mastered the drop shot and that is my greatest accomplishment. If it was not for technology, i probably would not be as smart as I am today. I have learned all sorts of tactics and strategies for online gaming. I also have tought my cousin how to play and i am very happy with the success he has had lately. I know im not one of the best, but i’m pretty high ranked in the world. When my cousin can compete with me and the people i play with, it makes me proud, because he is on the same path to success i am.
I have also learned more about myself in online gameplay. With online gameplay, you can never expect the same thing to happen twice, everyone plays different and it is highly improbable that someone can mimick exactly everything one does in online gameplay. Playing games is a great and fun way to relieve stress. Also I get to interact with people all around the world and see how they use online gaming. With online gaming, im constantly learning new techniques, Im always trying to get better and playing online helps me be the best I can be. Technology sort of pushes me to my limits and helps me satisfy my needs. My online gaming console really does keep me learning, growing, and going. But im learning and understanding how and why people do what they do. Its more than just a game because in everyday simple life, its the decisions we make. Its our character that defines who we are, and online gameplay is just another way to show that character. Technology has a way of teaching us to not repeat our mistakes (with online gameplay), and to learn from them with virtually no harm. Growing with higher expectations and the strive for success due to technology. Technology keeps me going, and wanting more out of the online gaming experience.
